Sap Beetles

Sap Beetles

Various species

These small beetles feed on decaying vegetable matter, sap and overripe fruit. Most are harmless but a few are occasionally pests of corn, tomatoes, raspberries, strawberries, and muskmelons (usually those that are decomposing, damaged or overripe).

The best way to deal with sap beetles is by sanitation, removing any overripe or damaged fruit and vegetables (they are attracted by decaying odors).
