This Chinese non-heading leaf type has clusters of 8 to 12" wide white celery-like stalks with large, nearly round, smooth, glossy leaves. The mild, mustard-y flavor is not bitter. This spoon-shaped plant has white stems and green leaves. White-stemmed Bok Choy usually is larger in size and needs to be chopped to used. The leaves and stems are both edible.

The ideal spot for Mustards depends on the weather. If it's cool they should be planted on a sunny site. If it's warm then some shade is a good idea.
Mustards are in and out of the ground quickly, so are often used for intercropping between slower growing crops, rather than being given their own area of bed.

Compost and aged manure are recommended to be dug into the soil. They prefer heavy soil with lots of organic matter to retain moisture and lots of available nutrients.

Shallow-rooted Pak Choi does well in a container. Make sure that your container has at least one drainage hole and fill with a mixture of potting soil and compost. Place your container in full sun as long as the temperature allows for this. In warmer climates, Pak Choi will need shade. Make sure the soil stays moist by watering regularly.
