Peanuts like warm weather and moisture. Carwile peanuts have an excellent resistance to drought. They don't like heavy soil, and benefit from rich humus in the soil.

Min Outdoor Soil Temp
60°F

Don't plant Peanuts outside until the soil has warmed up to at least 60˚ F (you can use black plastic, cloches, hoop houses, cold frames or floating row covers to speed this up). Growers in cooler climates should start plants indoors about a month before the first frost and transplant when the soil has reached at least 60˚ F (about 6 weeks)

Light
Sun: min. 6 hours daily (Warm, Hot)

Peanuts require full sun.

Water
Moderate

Water is most critical from the time the flowers appear until harvest. Water regularly during this period to keep the soil moist. Peanuts don't like wet leaves as it can contribute to disease so use drip irrigation, or water near the soil.

Feeder
Moderate

The soil doesn't need to be very rich in nitrogen as the plant plays host to nitrogen fixing bacteria, but it should contain plenty of calcium. Soil amended with compost and organic matter will provide the Peanut with all the nutrition it requires.

Suitability
Drought tolerant, Tolerates light frost, High heat
Small Gardens?
Yes
Containers?
Yes

Choose a garden container at least 14" in diameter and at least 8 inches deep. Peanut plants do not require much depth for roots because they are a shallow root plant. Plant your peanut plants about 10" apart, or one or two peanut plants in a garden container.
