Lettuce: Capitan

This Dutch greenhouse lettuce is adapted equally well to greenhouse or garden. 'Capitan' was judged the best Boston-type lettuce in the l983 Rodale Research Center variety trials. Excellent heat and cold tolerance plus resistance to lettuce mosaic virus. The 5 oz. loose heads have a light green color, excellent taste, appearance, and yield. Nice buttery flavor. Recommended with consistent high praise from our customers, and one of our personal favorites.

Garden Babies are brand new baby butterheads originally developed for the Japanese luxury market where a premium is put on flavor and quality. These cute, perfectly formed little butterhead rosettes have softly folded leaves, a lovely buttery texture and outstanding sweet taste. Ideal for growing in containers, Garden Babies are slow to bolt, heat tolerant, and make compact 5 to 6 inch heads at maturity. Perfect for individual servings and absolutely delicious with blue cheese dressing!

Lettuce: Schweitzer's Mescher Bibb

Best grown in cool weather, forms small tight crisp heads of green leaves ringed with red. Excellent flavor and appearance. Dates back to the 1700s. Introduced 1986 by SESE. This strain was brought to the U.S. from Austria in the early 1900s and has been maintained as a Schweitzer family heirloom.

Lettuce: Summer Bibb

A variety developed from Kentucky Bibb, it is slower-bolting and better adapted to heat in the South. It's used mainly on muck, has a medium size green rosette head, deep waxy leaves, and firm interior. Summer Bibb is vigorous and stands 2 to 3 weeks longer than original Bibb. Recommended for hotbed or greenhouse. Black-seeded.
